Cerebrovascular Disease

Cerebrovascular disease is a group of brain dysfunctions related to disease of blood vessels supplying the brain. The most common causes of cerebrovascular disease are due to obstruction of arteries or circulatory abnormalities.

Patients with a cerebrovascular disease may have vasculitis or arteritis of the proximal vessels such as the innominate or subclavian arteries; carotid atherosclerosis; and blood vessel abnormalities within the brain which can include intracranial atherosclerosis, cerebral aneurysms or cerebral arterial venous malformations. In addition, patients may suffer from abnormal vessels within the brain that include cavernous malformations and venous anomalies.
